Client Responsibility Agreement
Agreements to make you Successful


  • Birthing woman and her partner, if applicable, agree to take active part in prenatal care by following a healthy lifestyle, nutritious dietary plan, consistently take prenatal vitamins and other supplements as needed to maintain good health. Obtain moderate exercise, adequate rest and sleep (at least 7 hours per day) while in the care of Bellywater Birth.

  • Birthing woman must be vigilant in taking care of her whole self, emotionally, physically and spiritually. Ifshe feels that she is at risk in any of these areas she will let her midwife know immediately.


  • Birthing mother agrees to avoid excessive use of alcohol, cigarettes smoking, and all recreational drugs during pregnancy. If she engages in any of these activities, she will inform her midwife and understands that she is putting myself and baby at risk . She may be referred on to other, more intensive medical care and may be at risk and unable to have a Birth at Home.  She agrees to not overuse prescription, over-the-counter drugs or medications, herbals or nutritional supplements without first discussing options with her midwife and educating herself of the risks.

  • Birthing woman agrees to educate herself about her body, her pregnancy, labor, birth and parenting skills. She agrees to ask questions about any concerns she may have and to make her own decisions about all aspects of her care. 

  • Birthing woman agrees to attend to prenatal and postpartum appointments maintain financial commitment to Bellywater Birth. 


  • Breastfeeding is the best nutritional, emotional, developmental choice for a baby. Birthing woman agrees to breastfeed a minimum of 6 weeks.


  • Birthing Woman attempts to provide her own physician backup with admitting privileges at the hospital of the her choice. It is not a requirement for BwB services, but a client option. Regardless backup status, she agrees to complete an Emergency Back-Up Plan by week 36 of prenatal care. 


  • Laboratory work, if required, will be made through her own physician or local health clinic. Should any recommendations, diagnostic screening, tests, and referrals for treatment be deemed necessary by your midwife, the birthing woman will be asked to agree to sign a consent stating that she was/is fully informed of the risks & benefits of the recommendations, tests, referrals and choice for care. 


  • Attend childbirth class series or a refresher course.
