Is Birth at Home a good fit for you?
What is the next step? Midwifery Intake Form
BwB asks
potential clients to be in good health, committed to their pregnancy,
willing to learn, follow through on plans/commitments. They must be
open to alternative therapies, non-interventive pregnancy care and
birth experiences in an “out of hospital” setting.
BwB does NOT accept
high risk pregnancies. BwB vigilantly screens a woman for any
developing conditions that are contraindicated for a home-birth.
Appropriate referrals are made in the interest of mother and baby’s
well being or if requested care falls outside the midwife’s legal or
personal scope of practice as described in her “standard of practice”
guidelines.
Benefits of "homebirth" at your location of choice:
In
a “homebirth” setting, there are no routine medical procedures, time
limits, interruptions, staff shift changes, technological
interventions, and disruptions. This comfortable familiarity and
continuum of care throughout labor and birth helps contribute to
shorter, easier, less stressful labors, increased maternal confidence,
and greatly improves outcomes for mother and infant.
“Homebirth”
provides more choices for the birthing woman and her partner. These
choices are designed for the comfort and well-being of the birthing
woman and her baby and not for the comfort or convenience of the
birthing attendants.
“Birth at Home” is a safe alternative
for
healthy low-risk women and their healthy babies.

- Email or call
for at time to interview me. The goal of an interview is to see if our
personalities are a good fit . (If intuition tells you or I that we are
not a good fit, I will gladly give you contact information for other
wonderful midwives that you may be more compatible with.)
- Once you and
your partner (1) complete birth questionnaire (2) thoroughly research and
discuss your options, (3) sign informed consents, (4) complete detailed
history form, (5) financial agreement with deposit (retainer
fee), (6) request past OB records, (7) return documents, (8) schedule
initial appointment.
- I will review
the information to determine if you are considered “low-risk” according
to my “scope of practice”. My intention is to make you successful and
is always in the best interest of you and your baby. If I find that you
are outside of low-risk, I will point you in the direction of provider
who can better serve your needs. Upon determining low-risk status, we
will schedule your next visit for a detailed physical exam.
- You will have the responsibility of gathering past records and lab (blood work) results for this visit.
- Each
subsequent visit will be approximately every 4 weeks until 36 weeks,
then every 2 weeks until birth. Your prenatal visits typically last 1.5
hours so we are able to fully explore all your questions.
- Both partners
must be 110% committed to an out of hospital birth. If there are any
unresolved issues or fears by 37 weeks gestation, I will encourage you
to consider and refer you to a traditional hospital birth. I am
committed to making you successful in your birth experience by offering
birth coaching, birth plan, birth prep and monitrice services while
laboring at home as long as possible.
